One of my lovely sorority sisters sent the cutest note this week. I literally laughed out loud... enjoy!
"My attempt at explaining death to my three-year-old apparently did not go too well. He went to school and told his teacher that he, his mom, dad, and brother would all be dying "next Tuesday" and would be going to see Jesus."
~ Nicole
She bought her copies today;-)...
So today I received the following email. The reason that I'm SUPER-DUPER excited about it is that I wasn't sure how little boys would relate to "Maggie". So yes, this made my day!!!
****************************
"I don't even know what to say to you... We love your book. We love the story, the poetry, the illustrations, the characters, Maggie, Momma, and Grandma! You have really done something special! Thank you!!
Two days ago when it first came in the mail, I read it to Donovan (18 mos) for bedtime the first night and he LOVED it-- he kept touching the pictures and repeating me as I read.
Myles' (4 years old) turn to hear it was last night. He was glued to my every word. He was asking questions like, "how did Maggie get to hug her Grandma and she is not dead?" , and making comments like, "the angels are wearing wings on their feet" (and that's how he quickly learned to differentiate the angels from the living people in the book). He was tickled (as was I) by the chillin' angel laying on the cloud and especially by the elderly angels who were doing water aerobics and lifting weights! At the end, he was suprised, and delighted, actually, to see that Maggie's Grandma had wings on her feet, also! He got it!!!!
When we got to the page with the blank space for a loved one's photo, we talked about how he could put Grandpa's (my dad) and Grandma's (my husband's mom) pictures there if he wanted to. He wanted to take the book to bed with him, but I told him that we had to be careful with it so that we could keep it for a long, long time. He agreed, but don't you know that this morning, when I went to call him for breakfast, he was standing at the side of the bed reading it, saying "Mom, I know how to spell Jesus...J_E_S_U_S". Then, he brought it down and he and Donovan read it while I prepared his meal.
Don't you know---when I went to check his backpack this morning as we were leaving the house, it was there! He wanted to take it to school with him! So, of course, I let him.
I'm going to get another copy for my Godson.
You have a couple #1 fans in Indianapolis! ~~ Rana"
Thanks so much RANA!!! Totally made my day *BIG PHAT Cheese!!!*
My Friend Tanya sent the most lovely note today. Her daughter KENDALL.Rock.STAR received the "Student of the Month" Award today at her school, so Tanya surprised her with PINK & PURPLE flowers... Kendall wanted to play with the flowers, and here's what happened next:
"Kendall wanted to "play" with her flowers but after awhile, I was explaining how we had to put them in water so they wouldn't die. She said "die?" And she stood there for a minute and then went and got YOUR BOOK and started talking to the flowers about heaven ..."
THIS is what MAGGIE TALES is about!!! This story warmed my heart;-)...
So today's s/o goes to KENDALL.Rock.STAR!!!!
